WhatsApp users are getting new anti-scam features that ensure you will never join any group with possible intent to scam or steal money from you. The new feature is being rolled out in the coming weeks and gives you more power and information about groups where you are inadvertently added without your knowledge.

WhatsApp scams have become dangerous and the platform clearly sees the need to add more tools that protect the users or at least keeps them informed about the groups they are being asked to join.

WhatsApp Online Scam Protection: How It Works

WhatsApp says if you are added to a group which does not have any mutual contact, the messaging app will give you more details about the group, including the admin/owner who created it and how many members are already there.

As you can see here, the platform will also have a few more tabs to warn you about the possible threat of scam and also manually change the settings for who can add you to a group through the privacy section.

“From there, you can exit the group without ever having to look at the chat. And if you think you might recognize the group after seeing the safety overview, you can choose to see the chat for more context. Regardless, notifications from the group will be silenced until you mark that you want to stay,” WhatsApp says in its post.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is aware that scammers may contact you outside of the platform and then ask them to message through apps like these. The company is testing new ways to warn people when they chat with someone who is not on their contact list and give you more information about the person.

WhatsApp frequently shares its safety overview and warns users about knowing their messengers. It goes without saying that talking to strangers on the platform will be dangerous if they click on any link sent by them, or asked to download an app which can be malicious and attack their device to steal data.

WhatsApp is bringing ads to Status updates and Channels but the platform is equally aware of the need to protect its users from scams. This new addition will surely help people become more careful about who they message.
