Mohammed Siraj was the leader of India’s pace attack in the recently concluded Test series against England. The 31-year-old fast bowler from Hyderabad played all five matches and picked up a total of 23 wickets. He played a big role in India’s win by 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston and by six runs in the fifth Test at The Oval. In Edgbaston, Siraj, in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, picked up six wickets in the first innings, and at the Oval, he dismissed a total of nine English batters, of which five came in the second innings.

Siraj’s super show with the ball in the five away matches earned him big praise from former England all-rounder Moeen Ali. According to Ali, who picked up 204 wickets and scored 3094 runs for England in 68 Test matches, Siraj has made big strides towards being a complete bowler in international cricket.

“Siraj has been outstanding in the England series. The energy, aggression, and consistency he brings with the ball are world-class. He’s matured into a genuine match-winner for India, and it’s always a challenge for batsmen facing him,” Moeen said at the GFS Developments office.

“What impresses me most is his ability to control the ball. He’s got a big heart and never backs down — that’s what makes him so special. Credit to him for the impact he’s making,” added Ali.

For his super show with the ball in the fifth Test, Siraj won the Player of the Match award, and his five-wicket haul in the second innings of the Oval Test also helped him become the first bowler from Asia to take seven Test four-fers in England.

Siraj finished the series with a total of 23 wickets, and his tally of 23 also helped him equal Jasprit Bumrah’s record of taking the most wickets for India in a Test series in England. During the 2021-22 tour of England, Bumrah also played all five matches and accounted for the dismissal of 23 batters.

Siraj’s super show in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy also helped him jump 12 places on Wednesday (August 6) and become the world’s No. 15 Test bowler.
