iPhone 17 price hike looks very possible this year

The iPhone 17 series launch is widely expected in September but there are concerns about how Apple is going to price the new models. We’ve seen the iPhone 16 series launch in 2024 without major revisions but this year could be different, owing to multiple reasons that are not in the company’s control.

Multiple reports have accounted for the tariff hikes imposed by US President Trump in the last few months, and it seems the changes are going to take a toll on the end consumer.

iPhone 17 Launch Price Increase Inevitable – The Reason?

New reports this month hint at a possible price hike for the iPhone 17 series models. We could also see Apple increase the iPhone 17 price this year, something the company has managed to avoid in the last few years. The tipster says the iPhone 17 price could go up by $50 (Rs 4,200 approx) which will push the starting price range of the new iPhone models in the market.

The note further states that we could see Apple launch the iPhone 17 priced at $850 (comes to Rs 85,000 in India) and well over $1,200 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max model. These figures have been previously touted by analyst firms like Jefferies in its research note, and it seems Apple will have less control on these changes because of a tariff impact.

Apple is also using India as an export hub, which means the iPhone 17 units shipped to the US might incur further taxes and tariffs, and that will invariably come over to the buyer. Having said that, these price estimates were expected for the iPhone 16 launch as well, but Apple was able to absorb its effect to a large extent.

This year’s trends and other cost factors could make it hard for the company to keep the levels unchanged and people buying the iPhone 17 or 17 Pro models might have to spend more on the new versions. We’ll have to wait till Apple officially shares these details at the launch event.

Besides these, iPhone users will lose support for call recording via a popular app that helps them do that and more. Truecaller is ending the feature for iPhone users from next month, and has decided to focus on more important tools that iPhone users have demanded over the years.

The call recording feature was introduced two years back for iPhone users, allowing them to record calls, something that Apple does not make it easy for third-party developers with privacy at the top of its focus. Instead of call recording, the company has decided to invest its resources in two other important parts of the calling setup.
