Global K-pop phenomenon BTS has issued a firm denial following claims that they were part of a Michael Jackson tribute album being recorded in Ireland. The controversy erupted after The Irish Sun on Sunday, a Rupert Murdoch-owned publication, reported that the boy band had visited Grouse Lodge Studios in County Westmeath to work on tracks originally written for the late King of Pop.
According to the article, the studio planned to revive songs Michael Jackson had worked on in 2006 with Will.i.am that were never released. Studio boss Paddy Dunning reportedly told the publication that BTS had “already been to Grouse Lodge” and recorded one of the songs meant for the tribute album.
However, BTS’ label was quick to shut down the claim. In an official statement released on Tuesday via social media, BTS said: “We would like to address recent media reports concerning BTS’ alleged participation in a Michael Jackson tribute album. BTS has neither visited Grouse Lodge Studio in Ireland nor taken part in any recording sessions at the location for the mentioned project. The group is not involved in the tribute album in any capacity.”
The now-controversial quote from Paddy Dunning has also mysteriously disappeared from the updated online version of the article, further raising eyebrows about the credibility of the report.
BTS, who are currently on a temporary group hiatus due to mandatory military enlistments in South Korea, continue to maintain a strong global presence. Despite the break, misinformation involving the band has continued to circulate, often sparking unnecessary speculation.
The group’s management also emphasized they are “continuing to take appropriate measures to prevent the spread of inaccurate information.”
While fans expressed confusion and frustration over the false report, many appreciated the band’s quick and transparent clarification. ARMY, BTS’ dedicated fandom, flooded social media with support, urging media outlets to fact-check before publishing such claims.
