While Dhanush is currently sparking dating rumours with Mrunal Thakur, a resurfaced interview has reminded fans of the actor’s heartfelt praise for his former wife, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth.
The Raayan actor and Aishwaryaa, daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, were married for 18 years before announcing their separation in 2022. They share two sons – Yatra and Linga. Long before their relationship ended, Dhanush had spoken fondly about Aishwaryaa in multiple interviews. One such conversation has now gone viral again, where he compared her to her legendary father.
In an old interview with The Times of India, Dhanush opened up about what attracted him to Aishwaryaa when they first met. The actor, who tied the knot with her in an arranged setup back in 2004, clarified that it wasn’t her lineage that caught his attention, but her personality.
“I don’t see her like that,” Dhanush said, when asked if her being Rajinikanth’s daughter played a role. “I like her simplicity. If you think her father is simple, meet Aishwarya. She is 100 times simpler than her father. Aishwaryaa treats everybody as an equal and can be friends with anybody. I like the fact that she is bringing up our sons extremely well.”
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa had their first child, Yatra, in 2006, followed by their second son, Linga, in 2010. Despite being one of the most powerful couples in South Indian cinema, they largely kept their private life away from the spotlight.
Over the years, Dhanush also shared a close bond with his father-in-law, Rajinikanth, who had spoken publicly about his admiration for Dhanush’s talent and work ethic.
While fans were heartbroken to learn about their separation in 2022, the couple filed for divorce officially in April 2024 and were legally granted separation in November that year.
