Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan finally won his first-ever National Film Award last night, after an iconic 33-year acting career. The 71st National Film Awards were announced on Friday, and SRK won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his outstanding performance in Atlee’s Jawan. He shared the award with Vikrant Massey, who won for his role in 12th Fail. Soon after the National Film Awards winners were announced, music maestro AR Rahman took to his social media to celebrate Shah Rukh Khan’s win. He called him a ‘legend’, and congratulated him.

Soon after the National Film Awards were announced, Shah Rukh Khan shared a video thanking his fans, directors and family for their unwavering support. Reacting to King Khan’s video, seven-time National Film Award winner AR Rahman extended his congratulations. “Legend (rose emoji) Congratulations (heart-eyed emoji),” he wrote. A.R. Rahman has composed music for several Shah Rukh Khan films, including Dil Se, Swades, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and others.

AR Rahman also congratulated GV Prakash Kumar, who won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction (Song) for Vaathi (Tamil). “Wishing you many more ..Congratulations,” wrote AR Rahman.

Meanwhile, in the video, Shah Rukh Khan expressed his gratitude over being honoured with a National Award. Wearing a beanie, T-shirt, denim, and a sling on his arm due to a recent injury, SRK said, “I am overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility. To be honoured with a National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much to the jury, the chairman, and to the I&B ministry, and to everyone who thought I was worthy of this honour.”

“I want to thank all my directors and writers, especially for the year 2023. So, thank you, Raju sir, thank you, Sid, and especially, thanks to Atlee sir and his team for giving me the opportunity in Jawan and trusting me to deliver,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to his wife Gauri, and their children Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam.

“The National Award is not just about achievement. It’s a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep working hard, keep creating, and keep serving cinema. In a world full of noise, to be truly heard is a blessing. And I promise to use this recognition not as a finish line, but as fuel to continue striving, learning, and giving back. This award is a reminder that acting is not just work, but a responsibility to show truth on the screen,” he said.

Commenting on SRK’s post on social media, his Jawan co-actor Ridhi Dogra wrote, “Be well. Take care. Sending best energies. Biggeesssstttttt congratulations,” while Sanya Malhotra dropped red heart emojis. Jackie Shroff, Rahul Dev, and many other actors congratulated him for the win.
