Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty continues to be one of the most beloved faces in Indian cinema. From her blockbuster films in the 90s to her presence on reality shows and social media, the actress has mastered the art of staying relevant across decades. In a recent interview on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, she spoke about the people at home who shape her choices and keep her grounded, from her mother Sunanda to her kids, Viaan and Samisha.
Shilpa Says Her Mother Remains Her Toughest Critic
Talking about her family’s influence, Shilpa candidly admitted that her mother, Sunanda Shetty, is still her biggest critic. She shared, “Critic toh sabse badi meri mummy rahi hain. Aaj bhi unko bilkul achha nahi lagta main blouse high pehenti hun toh bolti hain ki, ‘Yeh blouse mujhe achha nahi laga hai.’”
The actress revealed that even today, she considers her mother’s feedback before finalising her looks, whether for shows like Super Dancer or other appearances. “She’ll call a spade a spade, and I appreciate that,” Shilpa said, adding that her sister Shamita Shetty is also very upfront with opinions.
Her husband Raj Kundra, she noted with a laugh, stayed silent about her outfits for the first five years of marriage, but eventually began giving his views. “Yeh nahi pehenna chahiye tha tumhe,” is now something she hears from him as well.
Samisha Calls Her ‘Famous,’ Viaan Guides Her Fashion Choices
When it comes to her children, Shilpa said that her five-year-old daughter Samisha is fascinated by the paparazzi culture. She revealed, “My daughter is very enamoured with this whole paparazzi culture. She’s still just 5, so she’s just kind of taking it all in and she’s like, ‘Mumma, you’re famous.’”
The actress added that she often hears this line from Samisha, who finds the attention around her mother amusing. Meanwhile, her son Viaan is much more relaxed but does not hesitate to share his opinions about her fashion. Shilpa said, “My son will be like, ‘I don’t like these kicks on you.’ They’re kicks by the way, they’re not shoes or sneakers anymore.”
She admitted that her language and fashion sense have evolved because of her kids. By keeping up with their preferences, she manages to connect with younger audiences and constantly reinvent herself.
On The Work Front
Shilpa Shetty is gearing up for her next big release, KD: The Devil. The Kannada action drama also stars Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi and is slated to hit theatres on September 4.
