Kapil Dev carved a golden chapter in India’s cricketing journey by leading the country to victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, setting new benchmarks of fame and national pride. His wife, Romi Dev, was present during that iconic moment in cricket history. However, Romi wasn’t the only woman captivated by Kapil Dev. His name was once romantically linked with a well-known Indian actress.

Before marrying Romi, Kapil Dev was in a relationship with actress Sarika, the former wife of cinema legend Kamal Haasan.

Although Kapil and Romi’s relationship blossomed in the 1980s, they experienced a brief separation, during which Kapil Dev reconnected with Sarika. Their initial meeting was arranged by Manoj Kumar’s wife and left a strong impression on both, eventually leading to a romantic relationship. According to BollywoodShaadis.com, their friends believed marriage was on the cards. Kapil Dev even introduced Sarika to his parents.

Despite the relationship progressing well, Kapil Dev ended it abruptly. While news of their breakup surfaced, the reasons behind it were never made public. Kapil Dev later rekindled his relationship with Romi Bhatia, whom he had first met in 1979 during a Test match, introduced by his close friend Sunil Bhatia.

Romi was charmed by Kapil, who eventually proposed to her on a Mumbai local train. The couple married in 1980 and welcomed their daughter in 1996. After marriage, Romi took charge of the family business.

Meanwhile, Sarika went on to marry South superstar Kamal Haasan, with whom she had two daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan. Kamal Haasan married Sarika in 1988 after his divorce from Vani Ganpati, but his second marriage also ended in divorce in 2002.

Sarika gave birth to Shruti before their marriage. Shruti Haasan later became a well-known actress in South Indian cinema, while Akshara Haasan pursued a career as both an assistant director and actress.
