Karan Johar pens a note to thank the team of Dhadak 2
Karan Johar recently shared a note to express his gratitude to the team of Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. In his note, he reflected on his thirty years in the industry. He admitted that when he turned producer in 2003 with Kal Ho Naa Ho, his primary agenda was clear. He wanted to build his company and focus on box office success. However, he said that over the years, his approach has shifted, and he now feels a responsibility to create stories that also contribute to societal change. He further added that he is extremely proud of Dhadak 2, and the film’s director Shazia Iqbal for remaking a powerful film and giving it her voice.
In his note, Karan Johar wrote, “When I turned producer in 2003 with Kal ho Naa ho my agenda was clear….build the company and make the money so we can fund in house entertainers and mainstream audience friendly stories… Even as a filmmaker I was clear that I always wanted to appease to the gallery and the gold spot would ofcourse be acclaim and box office success but the priority was always singularly the BOX OFFICE….I have now been in the business 3 decades and thoughts and ideologies have evolved … the need to entertain but also to in our own small way make societal changes or appeal to the collective consciousness of our audience base.”
He further added, “I am immensely proud of #DHADAK2 …. So proud of @shaz.3.0 who bravely took on the arduous task of remaking a powerful film and yet giving it her voice …. I am grateful to her for allowing us @dharmamovies and @zeestudiosofficial (Umeshji is a pleasure to work with) to shine as producers and bask in the glory of so many opinion pieces, blogs , reviews, you tube videos…. I am grateful to the entire cast and crew of this beautiful , strong and pertinent film of our times ….to #rahulbadwelkar who was a force of nature on the film and a huge support to Shazia’s vision … the entire cast is so spectacular and I am grateful to @siddhantchaturvedi @tripti_dimri for essaying their complexed and layered parts with such brilliance!!!! They were so so breathtaking!!! The entire cast has my heart….. the entire crew has my gratitude.”
He thanked the entire team of Dhadak 2, and lastly, the CBFC. “I would like to take the opportunity to also thank the CBFC who were immensely sensitive to the film and guided us with compassion….grateful!” he wrote.
Siddhant Chaturvedi commented on Karan’s post, and wrote, “Thank you Karan For trusting me with a story so brave and special… and for always backing the actor in me with such faith. This one’s truly from the heart, and I’m honoured to be on this journey with you and the entire team #Dhadak2.”
Director Shazia Iqbal wrote, “Thank you Karan!! We know all that you’ve done to make this film and get it released. Forever grateful to you for trusting me and letting me express through the film. We did it…!!”
Dhadak 2 stars Siddhant opposite Triptii Dimri in an intense love story. Helmed by debutante director Shazia Iqbal and produced by Dharma Productions, the film serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2018 hit Dhadak, which introduced Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor to Bollywood. Unlike its predecessor, which was a remake of Sairat, Dhadak 2 adapts the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018) for Hindi audiences. Dhadak 2 released in theatres on August 1, 2025.
