Anupam Kher schooled a podcast host on research and indirectly labelled Raj Shamani “fake” for cutting out his advice on humility from an earlier conversation.

Anupam Kher appeared to call Raj Shamani “fake” during his recent podcast.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has sparked buzz online after his controversial remarks during his appearance on Chalchitra Talks. While promoting his latest film Tanvi the Great, Kher schooled the podcast host on the importance of research and appeared to take a veiled dig at entrepreneur and podcaster Raj Shamani, indirectly calling him “fake.”
The interaction unfolded when Kher asked the host if he had watched his film Tanvi the Great. To his surprise, the host admitted he had not. Kher then used the moment to stress how crucial it is for podcast hosts, especially those covering films, to be fully informed about their guests’ latest work. “You should always research your guests and watch their latest films before inviting them. Otherwise, what is the point?” Kher said, adding that the segment must be kept in the final cut and not edited out.
Anupam Kher’s Indirect Dig at Raj Shamani
The veteran actor went on to explain why he emphasised this point. Without naming him directly, Kher referenced an earlier podcast he appeared on, hinting it was Raj Shamani’s, where he was asked to share life advice. “He asked me, ‘If you had to give me advice, what would it be?’ I didn’t say it on my own. Then I gave him a long piece of advice. I told him, ‘Son, don’t let success change you. Success should mean becoming more humble. While you sound humble, the atmosphere in your office feels different. You’ve come from a small town, and that simplicity should remain.’”
Kher revealed that the podcaster later cut out this portion of his advice from the final episode. The actor did not mince words in expressing disappointment: “That means he is fake. Because you asked me for advice, and then you cut out the part I said. Whenever I hear him talk about genuineness, I’ll always question that.”
Raj Shamani, who hosted Kher on his show last month, has not responded to the remarks yet, but fans have speculated that Kher’s strong words were directed at him.
During his appearance on Shamani’s podcast, Kher had also opened up about a deeply personal subject—his regret over not having children of his own. The 69-year-old actor admitted that he began to feel the void after turning 60. “I am very fond of children. My foundation does a lot of work for them. I used to host a children’s show called Say Na Something to Anupam Uncle. Somebody once asked me if I feel the absence of a child in my life, and I said yes—it’s the truth.”
