Netflix has unveiled a first look at Emily in Paris season 5, and this time Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is exploring Italy while balancing career challenges and matters of the heart. The hit series returns on December 18.

Emily’s Italian Sojourn

On August 20, Netflix dropped exclusive images featuring Emily embracing life in Rome as she spearheads Agence Grateau’s new office. In one still, she soaks up the Italian sun while sailing on a boat, dressed in a chic black-and-white polka-dot bikini and matching sunglasses. Another shows her beside Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), holding the reins of a horse, while other shots tease romantic sparks between the pair.

Career Setbacks and Secrets

The official synopsis promises high drama: “Just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships.” Despite turmoil, fans can expect Emily to rediscover clarity, strengthen bonds, and embrace new beginnings.

Returning Favorites and New Faces

Season 5 features returning stars Ashley Park (Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine), and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie). Joining the cast are Thalia Besson, Paul Forman, Arnaud Binard, Minnie Driver, Bryan Greenberg, and Michèle Laroque.

Paris Still at the Heart of the Story

While much of the upcoming season unfolds in Italy, creator Darren Star clarified that the series is not abandoning its Parisian roots. In a 2024 interview, Star said: “Emily is working in Rome sometimes. Sylvie’s company has an office in Rome. Emily’s getting that on its feet. But it’s definitely not a permanent move — we’re not leaving Paris.”

Even French President Emmanuel Macron chimed in, joking that he would “fight hard” to keep the beloved Netflix series in Paris. Variety later confirmed that although some scenes were filmed in Rome, Paris remains central to the story.

A Bigger Universe, Fresh Cultural Clashes

According to Star, season 5 expands the show’s scope: “Just at the point that Emily has gotten comfortable in Paris, she’s sort of thrown into another country where she’s going to experience cultural differences. And we explore the contrasts between French and Italians. It’s a whole new world — but Paris is still home.”

Fans can expect fashion, romance, workplace chaos, and plenty of cultural missteps when Emily’s journey continues this December.
