Oval Invincibles’ lead all-rounder Rashid Khan had one of the most roller-coaster days of his career on Tuesday in The Hundred match against Birmingham Phoenix. With his primary skill, bowling, he conceded 59 runs off 20 balls without any wickets, making it the most expensive spell not only in the competition’s history but also Rashid’s T20 (The Hundred is considered a T20 for statistical purposes) career.

However, with the bat and in the field, he was extraordinary as usual. As the Invincibles batted first, Rashid scored 16 runs off nine balls, including two sixes. One of the maximums was his trademark ‘Snake Shot’. Tim Southee tried a wide yorker on the 90th ball of the innings and Rashid, who had already shuffled across, bent low to horizontally slap it over deep square leg for a 56-metre six.

Watch the outrageous shot here:

The shot has been named by the Afghan himself.

“I call it the Snake Shot,” he revealed during IPL 2022. “When a snake bites someone it springs back. When the ball is too full, I can’t finish the shot completely. My body position doesn’t allow me to finish the shot. If I try to do that, I can’t generate the power. So I have worked on it a lot and strengthened my wrists for it,” he added.

His fielding was just as brilliant on the day. With Phoenix chasing 181, Joe Clarke sliced a drive to deep point flatly. Rashid came running from deep cover, and though he was a bit far, he put in a forward slide and got his hands just underneath to grab it.

The Invincibles lost the match. Liam Livingstone remained not out at 69 off 27, including 26 runs off just five balls against Rashid. The spinner just couldn’t get his lengths and speeds right on the day, and although he showed how valuable an asset he is still, Rashid would know he can be much better for the team.
