Love knows no boundaries—be it caste, religion, race or language. Countless couples have defied these divides to come together in marriage. This is especially evident in the film industry, where many have bridged religious differences. Likewise, the worlds of Hindi cinema and Indian cricket have witnessed unions that transcend such barriers.

A notable example is the legendary actress Sharmila Tagore and her husband, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Likewise, the marriage of actress Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli is another such union.

But there is another Bollywood actress who married a cricketer, crossing all religious boundaries. It is actress Sagarika Ghatge, who made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with Chak De India, gaining attention for her role alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

She later appeared in films such as Fox (2009) and Rush (2012). In 2017, she married Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan, despite their differing religions.

Their love story is quite remarkable. Sagarika Ghatge once said, “People around us talked a lot about religion, but we were determined, especially since my parents are progressive.”

She also shared that Zaheer Khan expressed his love for her during IPL matches. “When Zaheer first met my father, they got on well. My mother liked Zaheer even more than I did,” she revealed.

Zaheer Khan was India’s star in the 2011 ODI World Cup, finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Over his career, Zaheer Khan played 92 Test matches, 200 ODIs and 17 T20 Internationals.
