IndiGo to introduce flatbed seats: Which airlines offer them and how will they work

IndiGo is preparing to take its premium travel offering a step further, with the airline expected to introduce fully flatbed seats on its international flights as part of its long-haul expansion plans.

The move would mark a significant shift for India’s largest airline, which has traditionally operated on a low-cost model. IndiGo currently offers IndiGoStretch, a business-class-style product featuring wider seats, additional legroom and greater recline. However, these seats do not convert into fully flat beds.

While the airline has yet to disclose the final cabin configuration, seat manufacturer, number of premium seats or pricing, the introduction of lie-flat beds would bring it closer to the premium offerings of international carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

What does IndiGo currently offer through IndiGoStretch?

IndiGo’s existing premium product, IndiGoStretch, offers a more spacious flying experience on select domestic and international routes.

The cabin features a 2-2 seating configuration, with seats offering up to 38 inches of pitch and 21.3 inches of width. Passengers also get a six-way adjustable headrest with neck support, a five-inch recline, a personal device holder and a 60W USB-C-compatible power supply.

The offering also includes priority check-in and boarding, complimentary meals, additional baggage allowance and advance seat selection. Lounge access is available with the higher-tier Stretch+ offering on select routes.

IndiGoStretch is available on routes connecting cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, as well as international destinations including Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Amsterdam, London and Athens, among others.

However, unlike conventional international business-class cabins, IndiGoStretch does not offer a fully horizontal sleeping surface.

Which airlines already offer fully flatbed seats?

Several international airlines operating flights to and from India already offer lie-flat seats in their business-class cabins. Some also provide enclosed suites for additional privacy.

1. Emirates

Emirates offers fully flat beds in its business-class cabins on eligible Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. Its A380 business-class cabin also features an onboard lounge and bar, while passengers benefit from premium dining, priority services and airport lounge access.

The airline’s First Class offering takes the experience further with private suites, fully flat beds and personalised services.

However, the cabin configuration and seat experience vary depending on the aircraft.

2. Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways offers its Qsuite business-class product on select Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

The cabin features private suites with sliding doors and seats that convert into fully flat beds measuring approximately 79 inches in length. Selected configurations also allow passengers travelling together to create a double bed or a four-person seating arrangement.

Qsuite availability varies by aircraft and route, so passengers should check the aircraft configuration before booking.

3. Air India

Air India offers fully flat beds in its business-class cabins on eligible wide-body aircraft, including select Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 aircraft.

The airline is also upgrading its long-haul offering as part of its broader fleet modernisation programme. Its premium cabins feature lie-flat seats, priority airport services, lounge access where available, curated dining and onboard amenities.

4. Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines offers fully flat beds in business class on most of its wide-body aircraft. Its Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-10 aircraft also offer direct aisle access in several configurations.

The airline’s premium cabins are designed for long-haul travellers, with spacious seating, dedicated dining facilities and sleeping arrangements.

How much do business-class tickets with flatbed seats cost?

The cost of flying business class with a fully flat bed varies significantly depending on the airline, route, travel dates, aircraft and seat availability.

Business-class fares for the Delhi–London route, checked on November 2, 2026, varied across airlines, depending on the route and availability.

  • Etihad Airways: Approximately ₹5.27 lakh for a one-stop round trip via Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi (AUH).
  • Qatar Airways: Approximately ₹4.65 lakh for a one-stop round trip via Doha.
  • Emirates: Approximately ₹5.4 lakh for a one-stop round trip via Dubai.
  • Air India: Approximately ₹7 lakh for a one-stop round trip via Ahmedabad (AMD).

IndiGo has not announced the pricing of its proposed flatbed cabin. Its eventual fares will be an important factor in determining how the airline competes with established international carriers.
