Rodinia’s €4 mn Portugal move: Is nearshore apparel ready to scale?



A €* million (~$*.* million) funding round has given European apparel sourcing a clear **** test of whether nearshore production can compete with Asian outsourcing. On October *, ****, Danish company Rodinia Generation said it had raised €* million (~$*.* million) to take its O-factory technology to commercial scale through a new production facility in Portugal, planned for early ****. Rodinia says its model can make European production cost-competitive with Asian sourcing through automation, on-demand manufacturing and shorter supply chains. Portugal should provide its clearest commercial test yet.

New funding positions Rodinia for commercial-scale production

The round was led by Vitamin°C, a Zurich- and San Francisco-based early-stage venture fund focused on climate mitigation and adaptation, with backing from existing investors Climentum Capital and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO). Rodinia said the capital will support its expansion from Copenhagen to a full-scale commercial O-factory in Portugal. The financing brings cumulative disclosed funding to roughly €* million (~$*.* million) after a €* million (~$*.* million) investment in ****. Its Copenhagen facility has operated since ****.
