The companies announced the partnership at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai on September 9.
The feature will allow AI agents to carry out transactions on behalf of users within predefined controls, moving beyond chat-based assistance to transaction execution, according to the companies.
The initial application will focus on flight ticket bookings. Under the proposed setup, an AI agent can act on a user’s stated intent and complete the booking process within the app, subject to user-defined parameters or “guardrails”.
The technology behind the integration includes Pine Labs Payments Protocol (P3P) and the Grantex protocol. These are intended to provide the framework for communication between AI agents and for executing transactions in a controlled environment.
L&T Finance said the flight-booking use case is the first step, with the architecture expected to be extended to other merchant categories in the future.
The development is part of a broader push by payments companies and financial institutions to use agentic AI, where AI systems can perform tasks and execute transactions rather than simply provide information or recommendations.
Manish Kumar Gupta, Chief Executive – Urban Unsecured Assets, Payments & Digital Partnerships, L&T Finance, said the company is looking to use AI to simplify customer journeys while allowing transactions to take place within user-defined controls.
Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Technology Officer at Pine Labs, said the P3P and Grantex protocols are designed to enable AI agents to execute transactions securely between buyers and sellers.
The companies did not disclose details on the wider rollout timeline or the other merchant categories that could be added to the platform.
