Premium prepaid metal card launched on RuPay network: A look at features

The Card Company has launched a RuPay-powered prepaid metal card that allows customers to access a range of travel and lifestyle benefits without the income-based eligibility criteria typically associated with premium credit cards.

The company said the card operates on a prepaid payment instrument (PPI) framework and requires customers to complete know-your-customer (KYC) formalities and set up a wallet before ordering the physical card. Since it is a prepaid product, customers are not required to undergo credit underwriting.

The card is available in two feature plans—Travel and Lifestyle—which customers can choose while ordering the card.
According to the company, the benefits include airport lounge access, complimentary buffet offers at select five-star hotels and buy-one-get-one coffee offers at participating outlets.

The company also said users will earn reward points called Gold Coins on eligible spending, which can be redeemed for digital gold.

Pricing has been split into two components: the card cost and the feature plan cost. Customers can opt for the metal card without any feature plan or choose one of the two available plans. As part of a limited-period introductory offer, the company said the card is being offered at no additional cost when purchased with a feature plan priced at ₹5,999 plus applicable taxes. Without a feature plan, the metal card is priced at ₹3,999 plus taxes.

The prepaid card is issued on the RuPay network. The company said customers can apply through its mobile app after completing the KYC process.

The Card Company is licensed by the Reserve Bank of India to issue Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) in India.
