The label is no longer small print
Europe is building a textile rulebook around product-level data, but its latest enforcement campaign shows that one of the most basic fields cannot always be trusted. The European Commission tested *** clothing products and found that ** carried fibre information that did not match the garment. Some products contained different, cheaper fibres from those declared.
Natural-artificial blends failed ** per cent of tests, compared with ** per cent for natural-fibre blends and ** per cent for products labelled as a single natural fibre. Online purchases failed ** per cent of checks, against ** per cent for shop purchases. Authorities stopped sales of ** products, while many non-EU/EFTA imports lacked basic manufacturer information, complicating enforcement and recalls.
