‘Honeymoon coach’ row: Staff suspended, inquiry initiated after viral Nandigram Express decoration video

Days after a video of the Nandigram Express’s First AC cabin decked out like a honeymoon suite went viral, a railway staff member has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated.

On Wednesday, the South Central Railway (SCR) also revealed that the private decorator has also been booked under relevant provisions for entering the coach without permission.

As per the statement posted by SCR on X (formerly Twitter), a couple travelling on Train No. 11002 Nandigram Express on July 6, 2026 hired a private decorator online to decorate their First AC coupe. Authorities found that the decorator entered the coach at Jalna station without permission, describing “it is viewed as a serious lapse” in railway procedures.
Asserting that strict action has been taken in the case, it added, “The concerned staff member has been placed under suspension, and a detailed departmental inquiry has been ordered. Appropriate action will be taken based on the inquiry findings.”

Central Railway also said that the private decorator has also been booked under relevant provisions of the Railway Act for unauthorised entry into the train, travelling without a valid ticket and trespassing.

Chief Ticket Inspector Girish Kumar was on duty at the time, reported NDTV.

What was in the video?

The honeymoon controversy erupted after social media users shared clips of the decorated private coupe, complete with balloons, flower arrangements, rose petals and “I Love You” placards, raising questions about passenger safety and security inside a running train.

The now-viral video, originally uploaded by Maharashtra-based event company Rahat Room Decoration, showcased the transformation of the First AC cabin inside Train No. 110002 Nandigram Express into a romantic setting for a newlywed couple from Jalna.

The decorators said the couple travelled by road from Aurangabad to Jalna, while their team entered the train beforehand to prepare the compartment before the couple boarded the Chennai-bound express at Jalna station.

The footage showed the coupe adorned with red-and-white balloons covering the ceiling, floral garlands, bouquets, thousands of rose petals spread across the floor, LED lights and a prominent “I Love You” display.

The lower berth featured a heart-shaped floral arrangement on freshly laid white linen, while the entrance was decorated with a pink beaded curtain featuring heart-shaped cutouts.

Although the original Instagram post has since been deleted, the video continues to circulate widely across social media platforms.
