Vaani Kapoor said Diljit Dosanjh is a global superstar who has not broken any laws.

Vaani and Diljit’s films faced massive backlash.
Vaani Kapoor’s film with Fawad Khan, Abir Gulaal, was stopped from release earlier this year in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. However, when it came to the release of Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3, co-starring Hania Aamir, the film was released overseas, resulting in massive uproar and boycott calls. In a recent chat, Vaani Kapoor defended Diljit Dosanjh’s call to release Sardaar Ji 3 abroad.
Vaani Kapoor told NDTV, “I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack, and I am assuming, as a producer, his money must have been stuck. I guess some 100 technicians were involved in making the film. The situation was different when the film was shot.”
Vaani added, “I don’t think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star… He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as per whatever he thought was suitable to him. But I don’t think any laws have been broken, right?”
Back in April, Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s film, Abir Gulaal, found itself in trouble in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. Due to the casting of the Pakistani superstar, the film could not have been released. Following the attack, which left several innocent tourists dead and injured, backlash against the film grew louder.
Abir Gulaal would have marked Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback after nearly nine years. During that time, Vaani Kapoor was subjected to intense backlash and boycott calls for working with Fawad. Soon, it was decided that the film would not be released.
While Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3 faced similar outrage, the actor-singer didn’t budge and decided to release his film overseas. The film faced controversy due to the inclusion of Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. As such, the film skipped its India release and was out only in foreign theatres, including Pakistan.
Diljit Dosanjh was massively trolled for his decision, and film bodies even urged for a total boycott of the singer-actor. However, Diljit seemed unfazed and continued to promote his film with full fervour. He did not lose Border 2, a big film whose fate was also in jeopardy after the release of Sardaar Ji 3.
