As per a new Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report, the air taxi corridor connecting Gurgaon, Connaught Place and Noida International Airport could significantly reduce travel time and alleviate daily congestion in the national capital region.
The latest report, titled “Navigating the Future of Advanced Air Mobility in India,” was launched by Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
The CII has proposed a hypothetical 65-75 km corridor linking Gurugram, Connaught Place, and Jewar Airport, which could be covered in under 30 minutes, compared to the current 2.5 hours by road.
“By establishing a flagship pilot corridor connecting Gurugram, Connaught Place, and Jewar International Airport, India can leapfrog traditional infrastructure bottlenecks and position itself as a global leader in Advanced Air Mobility,” the report said.
“This initiative offers a high-impact solution to urban congestion by slashing transit times from hours to minutes, while simultaneously driving India’s Net-Zero 2070 goals through zero-emission eVTOL technology,” it added.
In addition, it also explores how electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft can provide a clean, high-speed alternative to traditional road and rail transportation, The Indian Express reported.
The CII report highlighted that cities worldwide are considering AAM as a sustainable solution for urban transport, and India is well-positioned to adopt AAM given its rapid urbanisation and infrastructure challenges.
The aerial distance between Gurugram’s Cyber Hub and Connaught Place is about 27-30 km, but the actual flight path will need to account for restricted zones like IGIA airspace, Delhi Cantonment and Lutyens’ Zone.
To comply with regulatory compliance (DGCA, 2023), the flight path would bypass central red zones by heading north, likely via Punjab Bagh, Civil Lines, or Kashmere Gate, before approaching Connaught Place from the northeast.
“This detour increases the practical flight distance to around 35–38 kilometres, but the segment can still be completed in under 12 minutes, significantly reducing the 60–90 minutes required by road during peak hours,” it said.
Central Delhi and Noida International Airport in Jewar
The proposed flight path would avoid the Tughlakabad, Okhla, and IGIA restricted zones, instead passing over villages like Madangir and Asgarpur, before entering Uttar Pradesh near Dankaur or Pari Chowk, according to CII’s plan.
According to the report, the planned route would cover around 65-70 kilometres with an expected flight time of 18-20 minutes under normal weather and airspace conditions.
“This hypothetical Advanced Air Mobility route for the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) is designed to facilitate high-speed aerial connectivity between key nodes, significantly reducing travel time compared to existing ground transport options,” the CII said.
Gurugram-Delhi-Jewar Corridor
The proposed Gurugram-Delhi-Jewar Air Taxi route would take off from Cyber Hub / Udyog Vihar, follow a curved trajectory toward Civil Lines to bypass Red Zone airspace, and approach Connaught Place from the northeast, avoiding Lutyens’ Zone. It would then depart from CP northeast, curve past South Delhi’s restricted air corridors, enter Uttar Pradesh airspace, and descend into a vertical landing zone near the Jewar terminal complex.
