Abrar Ahmed picks up a 4-wicket as South Africa collapse to 143 in the 2nd ODI
South Africa suffered a horrific batting collapse in the second ODI against South Africa in Faisalabad on Saturday. Their decision to bat first backfired heavily as the Proteas were folded for 143 in 37.5 overs. The visitors had a terrific start to their innings with Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock stitching a 72-run opening stand. But once the partnership was broken, South Africa experienced one of the worst collapses in ODIs.
South Africa lost their last nine wickets for just 56 runs — their sixth-worst meltdown in ODI history. After a solid start, the Proteas completely lost momentum, managing to add only 71 runs following the first wicket’s fall. It marked their fifth-lowest partnership aggregate between the fall of the second and tenth wickets, underlining how quickly their innings unravelled.
The score of 143 was South Africa’s second-lowest total in ODIs after a fifty-plus opening stand. Their 134 against Afghanistan last year tops the chart on this list.

Pakistani spinners dominated the innings, claiming eight wickets — their most ever against South Africa in an ODI innings in 33 years. Spinner Abrar Ahmed produced a career-best 4 for 27, supported by Salman Agha (2/18) and Shaheen Afridi (2/18). The spin trio dismantled the Proteas lineup, showcasing exceptional control and variation.
