Dhanush, rumoured to be dating Mrunal Thakur, once said he married Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth for her warmth and individuality —not her famous surname.

Long before Dhanush dating Mrunal Thakur rumours made headlines, the south superstar had spoken candidly about the heartwarming reasons he fell in love with ex-wife Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth. In an old interview with ETimes, he explained that it wasn’t her iconic surname but her grounded nature that captured his heart.
Reflecting on their arranged marriage in 2004, Dhanush had said, “I don’t see her like that. I like her simplicity. If you think her father is simple, meet Aishwaryaa. She is 100 times simpler than her father.”
Spanning 18 years together until their separation in 2022, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have two sons: Yatra (born 2006) and Linga (born 2010). Their relationship, often careful to stay out of the spotlight, surprised fans when it officially ended in November 2024.

On January 17, 2022, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa took to their social media handles to announce their divorce, ending their 18 years of marriage. The statement read, “18 years of togetherness as friends, as a couple, as parents, and as well-wishers to each other… The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting… Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate… Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand ourselves as individuals for the better. Please respect our decision and give us the privacy we need to deal with this. Om Namashivayaa. Spread Love.”
On August 1, a viral video captured the actor holding Mrunal’s hand at her birthday party. Adding fuel to the fire, just hours earlier, Dhanush was also seen flying to Mumbai to attend the special screening of Son of Sardaar 2, which stars Mrunal alongside Ajay Devgn. A video from the event, shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), captured the duo in conversation. Mrunal can be seen leaning in to whisper something to Dhanush, sparking even more curiosity among fans. “Dhanush and Mrunal Thakur are dating?” one caption read, triggering a range of fan reactions.
On the work front, Dhanush is gearing up for Tere Ishk Mein opposite Kriti Sanon, slated to release on November 28. Mrunal’s latest film, Son of Sardaar 2, hit theatres on August 1.
