Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude has captivated audiences since its theatrical release during Diwali. The romantic drama, which also stars Mamitha Baiju and Sarath Kumar, had a great opening weekend and held up well during the week. As the film’s first week in theatres comes to an end, it has managed to keep pace despite stiff competition.
According to Sacnilk’s latest update, Dude grossed Rs 74 lakh on its eighth day of release. It is the film’s lowest single-day collection to date. This brings its India net collection to Rs 57.24 crore. The film grossed Rs 9.75 crore on its opening day and did well throughout the weekend, despite competition from other Diwali blockbusters like Bison and Diesel.
Dude: Total Show Occupancy On Day 8
Dude is projected to perform well in its second weekend, provided that word-of-mouth for the film remains high. On Friday, Dude had a total of 14.69 per cent occupancy in morning shows, 19.34 per cent for Afternoon Shows, 0 per cent for evening shows and 25.39 per cent for Night Shows. Dude, despite its contentious theme, outperformed the 2022 success Love Today and the 2025 release Dragon of Pradeep Ranganathan.
Dude: Plot and Cast
Dude narrates the story of cousins Agan (Pradeep) and Kural (Mamitha), who grew up together despite a schism between Agan’s mother, Parvathy (Rohini), and Kural’s father, minister Athiyamaan Azhagappan (Sarathkumar), who is Parvathy’s brother. When Kural proposes marriage to Agan, old family secrets emerge, revealing family members’ actual faces and endangering their peace of mind. The film got accolades for its performances, which broke free from romantic cliches, as well as the music by Sai Abhyankkar.
Dude is a strong debut for director Keerthiswaran, whose story and direction were praised for successfully mixing emotion and mainstream appeal. The film, billed as a coming-of-age rom-com for the internet generation, follows a vibrant teenager who explores love, friendship, and self-discovery in contemporary Chennai.
