At a time when festive fashion often leans on sequins, shimmer, and maximalist sparkle, Sonam Kapoor continues to chart a different path. It is rooted in craftsmanship, heritage, and emotion. For Diwali this year, the actor chose a custom creation from Rimple & Harpreet’s new diffusion line, making a quiet yet powerful statement about the future of Indian festive dressing: mindful, artisanal, and deeply connected to its origins.

Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor’s look celebrated not just design but legacy. Each panel, stitch, and motif holds echoes of India’s vast textile history.

The ensemble was crafted from Rimple & Harpreet’s extensive textile archive, an evolving collection built through years of collaboration with artisan communities across India. Sonam’s voluminous kurta, cut in a relaxed silhouette with exaggerated balloon sleeves, told its story through patchwork with every segment stitched from vintage fragments that had once belonged to different corners of the country.

The detailing was mesmerising yet restrained: rust, indigo, and emerald threadwork danced across the surface, interrupted by mirror insets, metallic hints, and kutchi-inspired motifs. Despite the medley of textures and colours, the result was quietly cohesive. A soft beige dupatta, embroidered with tonal appliqué and subtle brass bead tassels, tempered the rich kurta, while wide trousers mirrored its earthy embroidery in muted tones.

Sonam’s accessories extended the narrative of craft rather than competing with it. A crescent-shaped patchwork bag mirrored the kurta’s handwork, while a pair of moccasins from The Row offered an unexpected yet grounding global touch. Her emerald and polki chandelier earrings glinted softly, adding just the right note of festive shimmer. Her hair was left loose with a clean middle part, and her makeup was kept minimal – proof that restraint can often be the most sophisticated form of expression.

Sonam Kapoor’s Diwali look reaffirmed what her style philosophy has long stood for: storytelling through clothes. In her hands, Indian textiles aren’t just decorative. Their narrative, memory, and modern identity are woven together. In a world chasing novelty, her choice to honour the handmade feels revolutionary. The result is not just a festive outfit, but a celebration of Indian craft’s timeless ability to evolve without losing its soul.
