Cha Eun Woo, beloved K-pop idol and actor from ASTRO, is officially serving in the South Korean military, but fans are learning it’s not been the smoothest start for the star. Just days after his enlistment, Eun Woo reportedly sent a message to his ASTRO bandmates that has raised both concern and affection online.
On August 3, ASTRO’s youngest member, Sanha, shared a humorous yet heartfelt anecdote about their group chat with fans. He revealed that on Saturday, August 2, Eun Woo used his allotted one hour of daily phone time to reach out with a plea: “Eun Woo hyung suddenly said, ‘How did MJ do it? Save me.’” He was referring to ASTRO’s eldest member MJ, who completed his military service earlier. Sanha added with a chuckle, “Even our physically fit Eun Woo hyung seems to be having a hard time. But I think he’s adjusting well.”
Cha Eun Woo, known for hit dramas like True Beauty and My ID is Gangnam Beauty, enlisted on July 28 at the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province. He will undergo two weeks of basic training before officially joining the military band for the rest of his 18-month mandatory service. He is expected to be discharged by January 27, 2027.
Meanwhile, an unexpected tidbit from an online user has further added to the military camp narrative. The user claimed her boyfriend, who is training alongside Eun Woo, told her that fellow recruits couldn’t stop staring at the K-pop star. It reportedly got so intense that an instructor had to step in and scold them, saying, “He’s human too, stop looking at him.”
Fans are finding comfort in Sanha’s update, relieved that despite initial struggles, Eun Woo is holding up well and staying connected with his ASTRO members.
