Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat producer claims bias by PVR INOX.
This Diwali, two big films will hit theatres – Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat and Thama. While the former stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in the lead, the latter will see Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in a never-before-seen avatar. However, even before the release of the film, a controversy has erupted. The makers of Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat have claimed that the distribution arm of PVR INOX is colluding with its exhibition wing to block out their movie.
Recently, Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat producer Anshul Garg expressed disappointment and told India Today, “In an era where widespread reliance on streaming platforms for financing is prevalent, we have elected to pursue the theatrical route. Despite delivering four commercially successful songs and a highly promising film, it is indeed regrettable that Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat is not receiving equitable consideration in cinemas. The film industry is fundamentally driven by dreams and passion — values that we hold close. Any attempts to deprive us of this aspiration and confine our work to a limited audience are highly inappropriate. We remain hopeful that rational judgment will prevail and that our film will be afforded a fair opportunity.”
However, PVR INOX Pictures CEO Kamal Gianchandani denied claims of wrongdoing or being biased towards a particular film. “Not true at all. PVR INOX Pictures is handling very few territories of ‘Thamma’ as a distributor. The major territories are being distributed by Maddock directly. PVR INOX Cinemas is treating both films purely on merit in terms of showcasing. We would love to see both films flourish at the box office,” Gianchandani told the same portal.
While Thama is expected to get a U/A certificate and cater to a family audience, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat will target a more mature viewership drawn to passionate, emotionally charged love stories. Both films will hit theatres on October 21, 2025.
