Shashank Khaitan is a well-known filmmaker who has given Bollywood quite a few hit films, and among those was his debut Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. The movie gained popularity, and soon after, Khaitan turned it into a franchise with the second film, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which was released and got equal appreciation. Since then, everyone has been waiting for the third film in the franchise, and now the visionary himself has given an update on it.
While speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Shashank talked about his plans for the Dulhania franchise and what he has in mind for the next one. Talking about it, the filmmaker said, “We all want to come, whether it’s Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, or me, but we are still waiting for the right story. I think when we are all happy with the good story, we will definitely come up with it.”
“There’s nothing that we are in talks about or something like that. We are talking all the time, we are discussing ideas all the time, but nothing has materialised so far. We are very responsible about how we want the franchise to go ahead, and we don’t want to make a film just for a project. We want to tell a good story, which will be engaging and fun. We have received so much love for the Dulhania series. We want to ensure that we don’t take the audience for granted,” he further added.
Alia and Varun first won hearts in Student of the Year (2012), followed by their rom-com hits Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017). Their sizzling on-screen chemistry, coupled with their off-screen camaraderie, has made them a favorite Bollywood duo.
Back in 2023, Karan Johar himself confirmed his intent to continue the franchise. Speaking to Pinkvilla, he revealed, “We do want to make the third Dulhania film, and I hope we will at some point. It’s a love story franchise that doesn’t really exist elsewhere—it’s something we created. After Humpty and Badri, we’re definitely looking forward to making another Dulhania film.”
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) celebrated classic Bollywood romances, while Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) explored more serious themes without losing its entertainment factor. Both went on to become box-office hits and earned a lasting spot in fans’ hearts. Now, expectations are high for Dulhania 3 with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt to carry forward the much-loved legacy.
