Varun Dhawan is ready to return to theatres with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, co-starring Janhvi Kapoor. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the romantic comedy marks Dhawan’s next outing after Baby John. Early box office signs are modest, as the film sold around 9,200 advance tickets across top national chains by 11 PM on September 29.
Of this, PVR Inox accounted for nearly 7,500 admissions, while Cinepolis contributed approximately 1,700 tickets. With two days still to go before release, trade experts predict advance bookings could touch 50,000 admissions by opening day.
Box Office Expectations and Stakes
Backed by Dharma Productions, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is eyeing an opening day collection in the range of Rs 10.50 crore to Rs 12.50 crore, depending on spot bookings and word-of-mouth traction. Analysts believe the film’s performance will be critical for both Varun Dhawan’s box office run and Dharma Productions’ slate of family entertainers.
While industry expectations are slightly muted given the shift in audience preferences post-pandemic, the film could pick up momentum if it strikes the right chord with viewers. Evening and night shows are likely to see higher occupancy, especially if the buzz grows after the first day.
Clash With Kantara: Chapter 1
The film features an ensemble cast including Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, and Maniesh Paul alongside Varun and Janhvi. However, it faces a stiff box office challenge from Rishab Shetty’s much-anticipated Kantara: Chapter 1. The pan-India release is tracking higher in pre-sales, suggesting a stronger opening.
Still, trade analysts caution against underestimating Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Romantic comedies have traditionally performed well if supported by positive word of mouth, and the weekend growth could help the film close the gap with its competition.
As the countdown to release continues, all eyes remain on whether Dhawan and Kapoor’s on-screen chemistry will draw audiences back into cinemas for a breezy, family-centric entertainer.
