Maddock has always had big plans for their horror universe. Soon after the success of 2018’s Stree, the makers quickly expanded their franchise into something bigger, and now, with Thamma being the 5th film of the horror universe, the stakes are quite high.

Thamma is set to release on the big screen this Diwali 2025, and it will see Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in a never-before-seen avatar.

After exploring the world of Stree, Bhediya, and Munjaya, Thamma will venture into the bloodier arena, with Ayushmann and Rashmika playing vampires.

As per the trailer of the film, Ayushmann plays Alok, a man who falls in love with a vampire and is later turned into one.

Rashmika Mandanna will be seen as Tadka, a vampire, described as “Roshni ki ek hi pehli kiran” (the very first ray of light).

On the other end of the spectrum, Nawazuddin Siddiqui transforms into Yakshasan, hailed as the “Andhere ka Badshah” (King of Darkness). True to his reputation, Nawazuddin is expected to bring intensity and depth to a menacing character.

Adding a touch of satire and wit, veteran actor Paresh Rawal takes on the role of Mr. Ram Bajaj Goyal, a man “jo humesha comedy mein tragedy dhoondhte hain” (who always finds tragedy in comedy).

On September 26, 2025, the makers finally unveiled the film’s official trailer. Sharing the trailer, the makers wrote, “A forgotten legend from our folklore, #Thamma takes centre stage this Diwali. Maddock Horror Comedy Universe presents a bloody love story, produced by Dinesh Vijan & Amar Kaushik and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. In cinemas worldwide on 21st October.”

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Munjya fame and backed by Maddock Films’ Dinesh Vijan, the film promises audiences a “bloody love story” that will light up cinemas worldwide this Diwali.

With Thamma marking another chapter in the much-loved franchise, and as per the slate released by Maddock earlier, the horror universe will have seven more films after the Ayushmann and Rashmika starrer, concluding in 2028 with Pehla and Doosra Mahayudh releasing one after the other.
