The news of Assam icon singer Zubeen Garg’s death left the entire nation in shock. The tragic death has broken hearts, and Anu Malik is also shocked by the icon’s demise. Anu and Zubeen had collaborated in a lot of movies in their career. After the untimely demise of Zubeen, Anu reacted to the tragic news and shared heartfelt condolences to the family.
“He was such a gentle, loving soul. Ab isse zyaada koi kisi ke baare mein kya bol sakta hai?” Anu said while speaking with HT, and added, “I had met him first through a person from Assam. I made him sing in Fiza, and we got along like a house on fire. He was very emotional about his sister, who he had lost in an accident. He used to sing in Assamese, Bengali, Manipuri, Boro, even Marathi, he had told me! Malayali songs as well. His live-in concerts were deadly. Yeh khabar sunke mann khatta ho gaya hai.”
Anu, in the chat, also shared that Zubeen had battled with some health issues some time back and said, “He used to tell me he has blackouts suddenly. I told him ‘go and get yourself checked.’ Then we lost track (of it) over the years. Usne phone bhi nahi kiya, chala gaya. The call of the hills, of his own Assam, was very strong.”
Zubeen Garg’s death
Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg tragically passed away following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. Zubeen Garg had travelled to Singapore to participate in the North East Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on the day of the incident.
Zubeen Garg’s professional life
Zubeen Garg was a versatile Indian singer and musician. He began singing at the age of three, with his first training coming from his mother. He later studied tabla under Pandit Robin Banerjee for 11 years. Guru Ramani Rai introduced him to Assamese folk music. Garg also started composing songs during his school days, often giving them to other singers to perform.
While Garg primarily worked in Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi films and music, he had performed in over 40 languages and dialects, including Bishnupriya Manipuri, Adi, Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Karbi, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Mising, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Tiwa.
