Lakshmi Manchu has formally raised a complaint with the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) after she alleged that a senior journalist made derogatory remarks about her appearance and age during a recent promotional event. The actress accused the journalist of humiliation and disrespect after he questioned her about her dressing sense at the age of 47.

According to reports, Manchu submitted a written statement to the TFCC detailing her experience. She claimed that the remarks were not only “body shaming and ageist” but also humiliating and disrespectful. The actress requested the Chamber to take note of the incident and hold the journalist accountable.

In her submission, the actress highlighted the contrast between cultural reverence for women and the reality of workplace conduct. She wrote, “India is a country that reveres women as Shakti, yet when we step into professional spaces, we are subjected to casual misogyny, humiliation and disrespect. This cannot continue. I owe it not only to myself but to many young women who look up to me to call this out. I will always be open to tough questions, to criticism and to scrutiny as a public figure. But I will not tolerate cruelty marked as journalism.”

Manchu ended her statement with a demand for a public apology, stressing that basic respect must be non-negotiable. “Respect is not optional. Accountability is not negotiable.” she concluded.

What had happened at the event?

At a recent promotional event, a journalist asked Lakshmi Manchu about her dressing choices at the age of 47. The question upset the actress, who responded sharply and asked if he would pose the same question to a male actor like Mahesh Babu.

In an interview with Great Andhra, the actress blasted at the reporter and said, “Would you ask a man the same question? How dare you! How dare you ask me that question? Would you say, Mahesh Babu, you are 50 now, why are you going shirtless? Then how do you ask a woman the same thing? People learn from what you have asked me here today. As a journalist, be more responsible in the position you take.”

As the journalist accepted that he wouldn’t ask such a question to a male, Lakshmi cut him off and stated, “I know a superstar’s wife who is still in the industry. Even the films she was once offered have been taken away after her divorce because they feel her ex-husband might feel bad. She is waiting to do good work. A man will never face something like that; his life will never change. But a woman takes on so much responsibility. No one gives us freedom; we have to take it on our own.”

Lakshmi Manchu questioned by ED

Actress Lakshmi Manchu was in the headlines recently when she was questioned by the ED for a case related to promoting an illegal betting app. Lakshmi, in an interview with Puja Talwar, said, “You know, it’s an ED sit. I find it very humorous that our government will come to the tail end of the person. I’m like, bro, look at who started it.”

Lakshmi Manchu is not the only celebrity under scrutiny; actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati have also been questioned in connection with the case.
