Khushboo Patani, sister of Disha Patani, shared a self-defence video after the Bareilly firing incident. Internet is divided as some hailed her courage while others trolled her.

Days after unidentified men opened fire outside her family home in Bareilly, Khushboo Patani — elder sister of Bollywood actress Disha Patani — shared a self-defence video on Instagram, showing how even a simple data cable can be used for protection.
Days after the shocking firing incident outside her family’s residence in Bareilly, Khushboo Patani — retired Indian Army Major and elder sister of Bollywood actress Disha Patani — took to Instagram with a strong message on self-defence. In a video shared on her handle, Khushboo demonstrated how simple everyday items, like a data cable, could be creatively used to protect oneself in moments of danger.
The video was intended as an empowering lesson, highlighting that one doesn’t always need weapons or elaborate training to respond in threatening situations. Instead, presence of mind and resourcefulness could help tilt the balance in a crisis.
Mixed Reactions Online
However, Khushboo’s post triggered a wave of mixed reactions on social media. While many lauded her resilience, others trolled her for the timing of the video. Critics were quick to connect it to the firing incident, questioning her credibility.
One user commented, “Pehle khud ka self-defence to kar lete.” Another remarked, “Per ab to goli chal chuki hai.” Some even accused the family of being fearful, writing, “Pura parivar dara hua hai,” while others taunted, “Goli chali thi tb kya krhi thi?”
On the other hand, a large section of her followers flooded the comments with words of encouragement. Many called her “a warrior” and praised her courage. Supportive messages included, “We are with you mam always,” and, “Mam, you’re amazing, it takes guts and willpower to stay strong on your ground! Literally mam, you inspire me a lot.” Another follower expressed concern, asking, “Are you safe mam??? Keep shining always.”
The Bareilly Firing Incident
The uproar comes in the wake of a disturbing event that shook the Patani household. On Friday morning, two unidentified men on a motorbike opened fire outside Villa No. 40 in Bareilly’s Civil Lines, where the family resides. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya confirmed that an FIR had been lodged at Kotwali police station. Five investigation teams have since been deployed, reviewing CCTV footage to track the assailants.
Soon after, gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post.
The Controversy Around Khushboo Patani’s Remarks
The incident traces back to a controversy involving Khushboo’s remarks on preacher Aniruddhacharya’s views on live-in relationships. Her comments were wrongly linked to spiritual leader Premanand Ji Maharaj, sparking backlash.
Clarifying her stance, Khushboo later wrote on Instagram that her words had been misrepresented. Her father, Jagdish Patani, also defended her publicly, saying, “Khushboo was misrepresented. Her name was dragged into the matter of Premanand Ji Maharaj. We are Sanatanis, and we respect the sadhus and saints. If someone is misrepresenting her statement, it is a conspiracy to demean us.”
Despite the controversy and the attack, Khushboo’s recent self-defence post suggests that she is determined not to bow to fear, using her platform to share awareness and resilience.
