Remember when Demi Lovato serenaded a “ghost” who had experienced trauma from sexism? Four years after the clip went viral, the singer-songwriter is finally opening up about the unforgettable moment, and she’s having a good laugh about it. On the September 11 episode of Just Trish Podcast, Demi reflected on her Unidentified with Demi Lovato show and shared her thoughts on the viral incident.
“I was so stoned,” the 33-year-old said, while laughing when host Trisha Paytas asked her if she really sang to a ghost in the viral clip. “I am very spiritual, and I do believe in the paranormal and things like that, I will not deny that at all. The whole show is about me going and finding aliens and ghosts and doing that fun stuff,” she added. The singer added that it was a time in her life when she “happened to be smoking a lot of weed.”
When Did Demi Lovato Sang To A Ghost?
The clip comes from Demi Lovato’s 2021 Peacock docuseries Unidentified with Demi Lovato, where she explores the mysteries of UFOs. In the clip, she’s investigating an abandoned home in Vulture City, Arizona, with her best friend Mathew Scott Montgomery and paranormal investigator Chris Smith. During their exploration, they claimed to encounter an extraterrestrial, or “ghost,” named Carmen, who disliked men. After Mathew and Chris stepped out of the room, Demi serenaded Carmen with her hit song Skyscraper to ease the tension before inviting them back inside.
Reveals She Never Watched The Show Again
Looking back at it now, the Cool for the Summer singer said that those things make her “cringe”.
“I honestly haven’t watched it back because I cringe out of my soul, but it’s also such a funny moment now that I can laugh at it and go, ‘Wait. That’s amazing,'” she said.
And when it came to owning up to doing “stupid” things, like singing to a ghost, Demi said she’s proud to laugh at herself. “If you don’t own it, people will laugh at you. What’s better than laughing at yourself? I love laughing at myself,” the singer said.

Demi Lovato released her first new single, the electro-pop track Fast on August 1, as part of her ninth studio album. On September 12, she released the second single, Here All Night, alongside a dance-heavy music video.
