Ranbir Kapoor reflects on being labeled a ‘cheater’ after his high-profile romances with Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, admitting the tag once bothered him.

Ranbir Kapoor has always been in the spotlight for his acting as well as his personal life. Before marrying Alia Bhatt, the actor was linked with two of Bollywood’s leading ladies, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif. In a throwback interaction with Nikhil Kamath, the Rockstar actor opened up about how his past relationships defined his public image and left him with the label of being a ‘cheater’ and a ‘Casanova.’
“When I started, I was always regarded as this playboy guy, who was just dating actresses,” Ranbir admitted. He went on to reveal that during his time in New York, from 2000 to 2003, he hadn’t dated anyone. “I was always an aashiq… I made myself believe that my first girlfriend in school was the love of my life. And once that ended, I focused on work.”
However, things changed once he began dating Deepika Padukone and later Katrina Kaif. According to Ranbir, these high-profile relationships became an inseparable part of his identity, feeding into the narrative that he was a womaniser.
‘It Used To Bother Me, But Not Anymore’
The Bachna Ae Haseeno actor further revealed that the tag of being unfaithful used to upset him. “I was labelled a cheater for a very large part of my life and I still am. I don’t care about it but it used to bother me because it’s not entirely true. People don’t know the entire story and I would never speak about somebody like this in public because it’s a very private thing,” he explained.
Ranbir acknowledged that while the gossip may not have affected him deeply over time, it did worry him when he thought about how it might reflect on his parents, the late Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. “It used to bother me when it used to bother my parents, but I later realised that it isn’t bothering them, I only used to think that,” he said.
Deepika Padukone, meanwhile, had previously hinted at infidelity during her relationship with Ranbir on Koffee With Karan and even addressed it in an old interview, claiming she had been hurt by his repeated behavior.
After Deepika, Ranbir was in a seven-year relationship with Katrina Kaif before the two went their separate ways. His eventual relationship with Alia Bhatt brought stability into his life, and the couple tied the knot in 2022. They welcomed their daughter Raha later that year, stepping into a new chapter as husband and father.
