BTS leader Kim Namjoon, better known as RM, marked his 31st birthday on September 12 with a major philanthropic gesture. The artist, who has often contributed to social causes, donated a total of 200 million won, 100 million won each to Seoul Asan Medical Center and Korea University Medical Center. The funds will be directed towards medical support for underprivileged patients and the improvement of healthcare services.

According to reports, Seoul Asan Medical Center will allocate RM’s contribution to cover treatment and surgery expenses for economically disadvantaged patients. Korea University Medical Center, meanwhile, intends to enhance treatment facilities and broaden the scope of its medical services with the donation.

In a statement shared through The Chosun Daily, RM explained his intent behind the initiative. He said, “I decided to donate in the hopes that it would provide a small but warm hope to patients. It’s meaningful to be able to participate, even if only a little, in spreading the value of medical advancement and respect for life.”

Yoon Eul-sik, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Korea University, expressed appreciation for the gesture. “RM’s warm heart, striving to create a better world, will be a great help in helping patients regain their health. We will cherish the value of sharing you have shared and do our best to nurture its fruits so that we can grow into an even more trustworthy, ultra-gap medical institution,” he said.

This is not the first time RM has celebrated his birthday by giving back. In 2024, he donated 100 million won to the Everyone’s Veterans Dream project under the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs’ Uniform Worker Appreciation Campaign. That donation was meant to assist families of uniformed service members who hold, or continue to receive, national merit.

Alongside his charitable work, RM took time to acknowledge his fans on his birthday. Sharing a mirror selfie on Instagram, he wrote, “Thank you. I miss you all,” as a message to the BTS ARMY.
