Pavithra filed a dowry harassment case against S Narayan, Bhagyavati, and Pavan at Jnanabharathi Police Station, alleging financial abuse and threats after their marriage.

Kannada filmmaker S Narayan is in legal trouble now.
Kannada filmmaker S Narayan, known for his long-standing career in the film industry, has now found himself in the middle of a serious controversy. His daughter-in-law, Pavithra, has filed a dowry harassment case against him and his family. The complaint has brought the personal life of the director into the spotlight.
Allegations in the complaint
According to reports, Pavithra alleged that her husband and in-laws pressured her to bring additional dowry after marriage. She further claimed that her husband did not work, which forced her to take financial responsibility for the household.
The couple, who married in 2021, initially lived with Narayan and his wife but later moved into a rented house. After a year, they reportedly returned to the family home.
Financial disputes
Pavithra detailed several financial transactions in her statement. “Since Pavan hasn’t completed his degree, he has no job. So, I started working to look after the family. Some time ago, he took Rs 1 lakh from me and Rs 75,000 from my mother to buy a car. Meanwhile, my husband’s family started Kala Samrat Film Academy, and I pledged my mother’s gold to help them financially,” she said in the complaint, as quoted by Times of India.
She added that when the academy closed, she was asked for more money. “Later, the academy shut down. Again, they asked me for money, and I took a professional loan of Rs 10 lakh. They repaid only part of the money in monthly instalments and then stopped,” Pavithra stated.
The complaint also mentions that during the wedding, her father had given Pavan a gold ring valued at over Rs 1 lakh. Pavithra alleged that Narayan and Bhagyavati later blamed her after disputes arose following the marriage.
Pavithra’s statement to the police
In her filing, Pavithra further alleged threats and held her in-laws accountable for her safety. As cited by Kerala Kaumudi, she said, “If anything happens to me, Narayan, Bhagyavati, and Pavan should be held responsible.”
Police registered the case on Wednesday evening and have initiated an investigation.
