Star India pacer Arjun Tendulkar on Wednesday picked up a five-wicket haul in Goa’s Dr (Capt.) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament clash against Maharashtra, less than a month after his reported engagement with Saaniya Chandhok made headlines across the country.

The second round of the invitational tournament, organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association, kicked off on Tuesday, September 9.

Opting to bat first, Maharashtra were reduced to 66/7 in just the 18th over, with Tendulkar dismissing opener Anirudha Sabale off the very first ball of the innings. In his second over, he dismissed another opener, Mahesh Mhaske, for just one run.

After Yash Kshirsagar was dismissed by Lakhmesh Pawane, Tendulkar dismissed Digvijay Patil for a two-ball duck. Maharashtra skipper Mandar Bhandari was then dismissed by Pawane, Mizaan Sayyed by Mohit Redkar and Shamsuzana Kashi by Darshan Mishal.

Mehul Patel and Akshay Waikar then added 39 runs for the eighth wicket before the latter was dismissed by Vikas Singh. Maharashtra were eventually bowled for a paltry 136, with Tendulkar dismissing a set Mehul (54) and Nadeem Shaikh.

Tendulkar finished with figures of 14-4-36-5.

In return, Goa posted a whopping 333 in their first innings, riding on half-centuries from Abhinav Tejrana, skipper Mishal and Redkar. Tendulkar remained unbeaten on 36.

At the end of the second day’s play, Maharashtra are at 127/2, with Kshirsagar batting on 65 and Patil on 41. Tendulkar has bowled nine overs and given away 20 runs with two maidens, but hasn’t picked up any wickets yet.

Arjun’s engagement to Saaniya Chandhok

The star pacer’s engagement to Saaniya, granddaughter of noted Mumbai industrialist Ravi Ghai, was a private affair attended just by close friends and family.

A left-arm pace-bowling allrounder, Arjun started his senior career with Mumbai in the 2020-21 season before moving to Goa, where he made his List A and first-class debuts.

In first-class cricket, Arjun has played 17 games, taking 37 wickets, including a five-for, while scoring a hundred and two fifties lower down the order.
