Ishaan Khatter is all smiles as Homebound gears up for its screening at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The actor shared a fun selfie on Instagram featuring co-stars Janhvi Kapoor, Vishal Jethwa, and members of the film’s crew, including director Neeraj Ghaywan, Somen Mishra, and Apoorva Mehta.
Dressed warmly in jackets and beaming for the camera, the snapshot captures the excitement surrounding the film’s Gala Presentations category at TIFF.
The news of Homebound’s official selection at TIFF was earlier shared by Karan Johar, who wrote on Instagram: “#Homebound has been officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 (@tiff_net) in the Gala Presentations category. Extremely thrilled and elated to be a part of this prestigious festival – another time for us at Dharma.”
‘Homebound’ Garners Global Acclaim
Homebound recently made waves at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, receiving a nine-minute standing ovation from the audience. According to Variety, the film follows two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who aspire to a police career, seeking dignity and respect. Yet, as they move closer to their goal, mounting desperation strains the bond that has kept them together for years.
Director Neeraj Ghaywan described the film as “a deeply personal story about friendship, dignity, and survival. It’s about people who are often unseen, and the quiet strength they carry in a world that rarely pauses for them.” Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer on the film, lending international credibility to the project.

Speaking to The National, Ishaan Khatter reflected on his role as Shoaib, a character he describes as “deeply complex, beautiful and human.” He added, “There’s a persistence to this character, despite all odds, that almost made him feel like an optimist in the beginning. When you start seeing the cracks, you see him getting beaten down by societal, systemic pressures, and your heart really breaks for him and for their friendship.”
Khatter emphasized how rare such nuanced roles are in contemporary cinema, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to explore a story that balances personal struggle with universal themes of dignity and perseverance. With TIFF 2025 and a strong Cannes reception, Homebound is poised to be one of the most talked-about films of the year.
