In a notice issued on March 13, the mission said the government has decided to extend all types of visas and e-visas that are expiring or due to expire soon by one month free of charge.
The extensions will be granted by the jurisdictional Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) on a case-to-case basis for affected nationals.
Authorities have also decided to waive penalties for any overstay by affected foreign nationals after February 28, if the delay occurred due to the ongoing situation in West Asia.
As part of the measures, exit permits will be issued free of cost to affected foreign nationals who need to leave India. The notice added that non-application for an exit permit or visa extension under these circumstances will not be treated as a violation of migration laws.
In addition, the government will grant Temporary Landing Permits (TLP) free of charge to foreign nationals who arrive in India due to flight diversions linked to the regional situation.
The steps are intended to facilitate travel and immigration compliance for foreign nationals impacted by disruptions in air travel and movement linked to the situation in West Asia, the notice said.
