The Chrome security issues have been a regular concern and a new one has popped up this month about which both Google and the Indian government are warning millions of users. The latest Chrome security warning this month comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a high severity ranking, which is never good news, especially when it involves a highly popular product like Chrome in question.

The web browser on Windows, macOS and Linux platforms are being scrutinised for the new risks that can leave people vulnerable to data exploits and other security breaches.

The security agency has reiterated the issues facing the Google browser that is running on machines across the globe and used for both personal and business use. “Multiple Vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Out of bounds read in Media; Out-of-bounds Read and Write in Tint Component and Inappropriate Implementation in DevTools. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit specially crafted web pages.”

The biggest highlight about the risk from Google suggests users can be attacked remotely which makes it easier for anyone to bypass device security and access confidential data. You have both end users as well as businesses using Chrome for desktop likely to be affected. These are the exact details of the Chrome versions running across platforms that are at risk:

Chrome Security Risk: Who Is Affected

  • Google Chrome versions prior to 145.0.7632.116/117 for Windows
  • Google Chrome versions prior to 145.0.7632.116/117 for Mac
  • Google Chrome versions prior to 145.0.7632.116 for Linux

If your Windows, Mac or Linux machine has Chrome running on versions before the ones given here, it is highly recommended you to update to the latest and secure version.

And as we have said multiple times before, Google knows about these issues and offers a new version to fix them. Users now must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome.
