Vivo V70 Elite is the new premium addition to its lineup in India.

Vivo V70 series is the second big launch for the brand in the market this year after giving us the surprising X200T model as a part of last year’s X200 series. The V70 series gets a new V70 Elite model and the lineup has been overhauled in many aspects, which means, get ready to pay more for the new devices.

The V70 Elite picks up a premium design, along with a Snapdragon chipset, Zeiss-tuned cameras and other important stuff. But does all that translate into a compelling package for its higher Rs 47,999 starting price tag with other options available?

The Full Makeover

Put the V70 or V70 Elite in front of the V60 series and you see no similarities whatsoever, except for the Zeiss camera branding. The V70 series looks more like the X-series devices, and that has come with the obvious price hike.

You have an aluminium frame, used with a fiber-based plastic or glass body at the back, which not only keeps it sleek but light on weight as well. You also have IP68 and IP69 rating which gives it better durability against water pressure and dust.

There is very little to compare from the V60 series which also tells you how the company now views the V-series especially with the phone prices going up the ladder. There is a lot to like about the V70 Elite design but it also makes it look like many other phones in the market.

The Display Push

Vivo V70 Elite gets a compact 6.59-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, 5000 nits of peak brightness and Schott Xensation for glass protection. This is not an LTPO panel but you have HDR10+ supported which aids with better viewing experience.

The phone has been built to use with ease in one hand, and the pixel density is rich enough to let you enjoy watching videos or even browsing the web for content. The panel colours are punchy, and vibrant and the high brightness level has its own benefits.

Dependable Performer

Vivo decided to power the V70 Elite with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset which is nowhere close to the flagship versions but still quietly dependable. It won’t blow you away with massive benchmark scores but manages to keep everything ticking without any hiccup. The app launches are quick, navigating across the sides is seamless and fluid. And having better RAM and storage version gets your data transfers done faster.

The phone does get warm but nothing abnormal and uncomfortable that can become a deal breaker. The overall performance for daily use is more than enough with plenty left in the tank to keep you happy.

OriginOS 6 is again part of the Vivo package and the new version continues to see gradual improvements with more focus on keeping the platform secure and glitch-free. The software has bloatware like before with the V-series devices but most of them can be deleted.

Good Cameras?

The V70 Elite features a triple camera unit that gives you a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP telephoto lens with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide lens. The first two lenses show up with decent quality in most conditions, especially the main sensor.

Is it the best in the segment, not really but you get the right amount of depth, colours and details. The low light shots are also acceptable but dimmer light brings some noise into the shots.

The third lens is the weakest of the lot and that was pretty much expected when the setup is mostly there to make up the numbers. So when you talk about the full lot, the main unit delivers on most fronts and the telephoto could use some improvements.

The All-Day Slog

The new Vivo V-series phone packs a 6,500mAh battery with 90W wired fast charging support. The adapter is also available in the box which is becoming important to highlight. The phone manages to last for a day on full charge and by that we mean you can use the device for the whole day and come back home to fuel it up for the next day.

The heavy users will like that level of endurance, especially for its compact form. With PCMark Battery we got a 25 hours+ score which also makes us believe that regular users can get more out of the battery.

Vivo V70 Elite is a refreshing switch from the brand, but the design takes it into a crowded space where people might have split opinions. The use of the reliable hardware cannot be understated and the compact nature of the V70 Elite might also appeal to many. However, in practice the V70 Elite has a lot of competition, and one of them is from Vivo with the X200T which has the better camera setup and display.
