The ban, imposed on December 9, 2024, came amid rising regional tensions. The ban then transformed into a complete restriction in December 2025 following the closure of visa centres.
“Previously, the association had initiated restrictions in December 2024, which eventually escalated to a complete ban on accommodation for all types of travellers in December 2025 following the closure of visa centres,” the statement read.

With the ban now lifted, Bangladeshi tourists and visitors can once again book rooms in Siliguri hotels.
The association, in a statement, announced the immediate lifting of all bans and restrictions regarding the accommodation of Bangladeshi nationals in members’ hotels across Siliguri, West Bengal.
The move comes in light of the formation of a democratically elected government in Bangladesh on February 17, with Tarique Rahman assuming office as the new prime minister, ending Muhammad Yunus’ 18-month rule.
“After reassessing the current developments, the Greater Siliguri Hoteliers Welfare Association conducted a formal vote among its member hoteliers, with the majority voting in favour of resuming services,” the statement read.
“The decision comes in light of recent positive diplomatic shifts, following the formation of a democratically elected government in Bangladesh on February 17, 2026.
“Given the recent easing of cross-border travel restrictions by both governments, the association recognises the mutual intent of both nations to improve cross-border restrictions,” it adds.
The association is lifting the ban on Bangladeshi guests, but they emphasised that India’s safety and respect come first. They warned that if there are any future incidents of disrespect or provocative behaviour, they will not hesitate to impose strict measures again.
“While we are lifting the ban, the association firmly reiterates that the nation always comes first. Should there be any future instances of disrespect or any provocative statements towards our country, we will not hesitate to take such strict actions again,” the statement read.
The association had earlier imposed temporary restrictions in December 2024 amid strained India-Bangladesh relations.
The initial restrictions were prompted by alleged disrespect towards the Indian flag and provocative statements by some Bangladeshi citizens, and escalated to a complete ban in December 2025.
All hotels under the association have now been told to follow legal and security rules strictly, which include checking passports and visas carefully and filing Form C on time with the FRRO.
The notice states, “We always emphasise safety as our top priority. All member hoteliers have been strictly instructed to continue adhering to all legal and security protocols.”
