The nationwide AI Responsibility Pledge campaign was launched under the IndiaAI Mission in collaboration with Intel India on February 16. Through the dedicated portal, citizens were invited to commit to the ethical, inclusive and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.
The initiative encouraged participants to reflect on key principles such as data privacy, accountability, transparency and tackling misinformation through scenario-based questions. Those who completed the pledge received a digital badge along with access to AI learning resources.
Speaking at the summit, Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for inspiring the large-scale outreach to colleges and students. “It is his vision that motivated us to engage with colleges and faculty members and encourage students to take this pledge to use AI as a force for good. A special round of applause to the 2,50,000 students who participated. This is a proud day for the country,” he said.
The minister noted that the participation far exceeded the initial target of 5,000 pledges, underscoring growing public awareness around responsible AI adoption. He described the achievement as a milestone in citizen-led digital responsibility and said it reflects India’s commitment to shaping the global AI conversation around ethics, inclusion and public trust.
