Android phones are easy to track but can you secure the data?
Phones are not just for making calls or getting messages, they are a big part of your daily activities, which includes paying for food or even hailing a cab. So it is obvious that when you lose the phone, your life is disrupted and more importantly, you are worried about the data falling into wrong hands.
The good thing is that Google realises the value of a phone for users and it has set up a series of tools in its settings that can make it easier for people to track down their device, or at least access the account to keep their data safe. And you just need to follow five basic tips/steps to make sure that losing an Android phone does not become damaging in any form.
Follow These Steps To Secure Your Data
Google’s best tool to track down your stolen/lost device is using Find My Device (Find Hub) which is built into all the Android phones. The company does not enable it by default and you can do it by going to settings and following these steps:
- Go to the Find Hub app and locate your phone
- Tap on settings and make sure device tracking is enabled
- Now, you can go to Remote Lock where the option to secure your device/data is available
- This security feature is available on mobile and web versions, and only needs your phone number to lock the screen remotely when it is lost or stolen
- The secret to keeping your data safe is to have Remote Lock enabled for your device and account
Google says remote lock on any device, and you can access it via android.com/lock, enter the phone number of your device and access the account without needing a Google sign in.
The feature can be very useful for millions, especially when you are worried about someone misusing the device. However, Google says for remote lock to work, the device must be online. And you can use the security feature up to twice in one day.
