Planning a surprise trip is the most ‘sexy’ thing you can do this Valentine’s Day


Romance isn’t about roses or chocolates anymore. It’s a surprise itinerary, a confirmed hotel booking, and a partner who’s already sorted the flights. A study by Booking.com suggests that for Indian couples, travel has quietly become the most powerful love language.

According to the research, 86% of Indian travellers say they find it “sexy” when a partner surprises them with a fully-booked getaway. In other words, nothing says “I love you” quite like “I’ve planned everything, just pack your bags.”

The findings point to a shift in how romance is being defined. Instead of focusing on material gifts, many women now associate emotional connection with effort. As many as 92% of women surveyed said they find it attractive when their partner takes charge of planning and booking, while 82% would rather be with someone who plans meaningful experiences than someone who simply looks good.

And the emotional payoff is real. When a partner handles the travel logistics, women report feeling loved (74%), excited (72%), and deeply grateful (51%). Almost all — 99% — say they would be more affectionate towards a partner who booked a trip for them without being asked. For 95%, happiness itself increases when their partner occasionally takes over the full booking process.

Yet, despite this clear desire, there remains a gap between what people want and what they experience. While 76% of Indian women believe men should take the lead in planning vacations, 8% say they have never had a partner fully plan or book a trip for them. This year, 91% of women say they want their partners to show more initiative in romantic gestures, starting with travel.

So what’s stopping people from stepping up? The study points to familiar anxieties. About 22% of travellers admit they don’t know where to begin, while 20% worry about getting the itinerary perfect. Nearly half say they haven’t taken charge simply because their partner usually handles the planning. And 35% would rather take on the stress of all their holiday shopping than be responsible for organising an entire vacation.

The takeaway is simple: effort is the new attraction. Planning a trip signals care, confidence, and emotional investment.
