OpenAI wants to make hardware products and we could see the first one launch this year

OpenAI is entering the AI hardware market this year but the company could be forced to rejig its strategy and launch a familiar product as its first in the AI arena. OpenAI is said to be working on audio-related devices which could either be your regular earbuds or something more unconventional but a new report suggests it could start off the journey with the former later this year.

The details sourced via China hint at OpenAI going for a more safer product until it can have the premium option ready to handle the daily grunt and also make it available at a nominal price.

OpenAI Launching Hardware: What To Expect

The new tip about the OpenAI device talks about the category it might focus on and also what the company could name it. This new device could be earbuds and it is likely to be called Dime, as hinted in a post by tipster Smart Pikachu

The change in plans with the earbuds could be linked to the price of the product and also its overall capability which needs a higher memory chip that itself will cost a lot. The report cites a patent filing in China which gives us more details about OpenAI and its hardware launch plans over the next few years.

The company is investing billions in ChatGPT and other models, but making hardware products is paramount for OpenAI to really build an ecosystem around these chatbots and increase its overall user base and also expand its revenue streams. This product needs to make a strong case for inclusion in your gadget garage, especially with the last few supposed AI devices flattering to deceive.

The first product should be ambitious but not go over the top especially with its price, because people will need more than one reason to invest in another gadget that will surely need charging and other forms of care.

OpenAI has introduced a new standalone app for Codex which houses multiple AI agents and allows developers to manage them under a hub. The new app is available for macOS users as the company looks to entice more users from Anthropic and Cursor and give them more reasons and purpose to use ChatGPT and build AI agents through its own platforms.

Codex on macOS is targeting these users and with the demand for AI agents increasing by the day, this launch was hard to avoid for the company.
