Microsoft Edge browser faces another critical issue that users have been warned about by the Indian government.
The new security alert comes for the Chromium based browser
Microsoft Edge browser has a security issue that has been highlighted with a medium severity rating by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In this week. The security agency has given it a high severity rating which is never ideal, especially when millions of users have the Edge browser pre-installed on their Windows systems.
Edge is built on the same Chromium engine as Chrome but comes with a wider range of features and AI support with Copilot which makes these risks very dangerous.
Microsoft Edge Security Risk: What We Know
The CERT-In bulletin dated January 23, 2026 says there are multiple security issues that have a serious impact on important components in the browser. “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Microsoft Edge due to Out of bounds memory access in V8, Inappropriate implementation in V8 and Blink, Insufficient validation of untrusted input in Downloads, Incorrect security UI in Digital Credentials, Insufficient policy enforcement in Network, Incorrect security UI in Split View, Use after free in ANGLE. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page,” the agency says in its note.
These are effectively some of the crucial parts of any browser that are directly linked to the system it is running on.
Microsoft Edge Security Risk: Who Is Affected
The agency claims issues at this scale put everyone using the Edge browser at risk, which can be individual users or even the businesses relying on the platform for their work.
So, if you’re using the Chromium-based Edge browser versions prior to 144.0.3719.82 then you need to update the browser for your system right away.
Microsoft Edge Update: How To Get It
You can head over to Microsoft Edge on your Windows PC and do the following:
- Click on the three-dot menu on the top-right
- Hover over Help and Feedback
- Click on About Microsoft Edge
The browser starts looking for a new version and updates to the latest one and reboot to take effect.
