OpenAI is working on just one but multiple AI devices to power ChatGPT
OpenAI is planning to enter the hardware space with AI audio devices and a new leak has given us some clues about the rumoured product that could launch later this year or in early 2027. Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI had announced a deal with former Apple chief designer Jony Ive, who is being given the reins to develop a product that not only takes AI into a new sphere but also encapsulates the company as a strong force in the hardware space for years to come.
OpenAI needs ChatGPT to work through its own devices and this leaked product shows us the path the company could take.
OpenAI Audio Device Leak: What It Suggests
OpenAI has talked about making products that are different from the standard phones, or earbuds. But the company might have to borrow some elements from these devices to develop its unique AI audio device. A new leak claims OpenAI will make a pill-shaped audio device that sits behind the ear and records all the conversations with a possible two-way chat support to keep the AI running.
We have seen AI Pin-like devices tried out in the last few years but none have delivered the value for the companies involved. In fact, Humane AI was eventually sold to HP where the company has absorbed the technology for its own products. Going by these experiments, OpenAI can narrow down its own design blueprint for the products and this rumoured AI capsule earbud feels like the most probable outcome.
The company could have an AI Pen device available at a later date (post-2027) which sits on the table or the pocket where it can capture all the data and process it on the phone via an app. These devices will need the platform to seamlessly integrate for all the data processing to be handled without any gaps or complications.
OpenAI needs the product to be as successful as ChatGPT and the company has to develop these where rivals like Google and even Apple will rely on their traditional devices to get people using them.
