Microsoft Edge browser is based on the same Chromium engine as Chrome and the new security issue will be of concern.
The new security alert comes for the Chromium based browser
Microsoft Edge is the Chrome-like browser available on Windows and other platforms and the Indian government is warning about a security bypass issue that could lead to data theft for millions.
The alert comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In which claims that a vital component in the Edge browser can be exploited to not only bypass the device security but also tempt them into sharing more personal details which can be misused. The warning is part of Microsoft’s own release note in January 2026 that many should be careful about.
Microsoft Edge Security Issue: What It Says
The security agency has raised the warning this month which comes with a high severity rating and alerts users about the actual issue and how it can affect them. “This vulnerability exists in Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) due to Insufficient policy enforcement in the WebView tag. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted webpage.”
Vulnerabilities like these are not rare but users can be caught off guard if the email content is tempting enough for them to click on the link which makes it easy for the hackers to do the dirty work.

- Click on the three-dot menu on the top-right
- Hover over Help and Feedback
- Click on About Microsoft Edge
The browser start looking for a new version and update to the latest one and reboot to take effect
